Graphcore has confirmed it is doubling its staff in Bristol to 750 with an AI development lab. Back in October the company said it was doubling its staff with silicon engineering, software and AI engineering roles.

This has been included in the UK government’s announcement of a package of investments this week ahead of the Budget this week.

This comes as the Softbank-owned company has also opened an AI Engineering Campus in Bengaluru in India. This will focus on chip design, initially with 100 AI jobs in Silicon Logical Design, Physical Design, Verification, Characterization and Bring-up. This will rise to 500 jobs with $1bn investment over the next decade.

The AI Engineering Campus will play a central role in Graphcore’s work, building the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) computing, helping to realize SoftBank Group’s vision of becoming the leading Artificial Super Intelligence platform provider.

Since acquiring Graphcore in 2024, SoftBank has announced a series of AI compute infrastructure initiatives, including the $500bn Stargate infrastructure project, in partnership with OpenAI and Oracle.
